Through his explorations of language Sam Winston creates sculpture, drawings and books that question our understanding of words, both as a carriers of messages and as information itself.

He started writing stories and selling artist books through Londonβ��s Institute of Contemporary Arts and can now be found in many special collections in the UK and the US, including – MoMA New York, Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles, the Tate Galleries London, and Victoria & Albert Museum.

He has exhibited internationally and worked on various commissions including COMME des GARCONS Guerrilla Store (Hong Kong) and The New York Times. His work is currently on show in the Courtauld Institute of Art in London.

The hardest part about having a name like µ-Ziq is asking someone at the record shop if they have them in stock. Also where do you file it under M, under U or with the numbers?

The cover is as ambiguous as it comes. Is he waiting to interview people or just really likes the feel of wood grain? Or is he a mime (you cant see his face) about to perform on some decks?

The whole cover seems like it should be an interface for a website or interactive clip (ala Neon Bible). You just want to click his hands and start making music.

The photo is actually a good lesson for photographers. If you want to make your shots more interesting get creative with the angles. This shot from any other angle would have been boring.

The design studio behind this is Blue Source, who along with Big Active and Farrow do probably 85% of the music design in the UK. The photographer is Amber Rowlands who sadly hasn’t done any other cool music related photography.

µ-Ziq also released an EP for this with a similar concept. Although you lose some of the effect by showing less of the person.

p.s. one of the best cover by my opinion that I have seen. See how minimal and clear is and how the fonts that used is merge nicely with the photo. No need to know m-ziq and what kinda of music plays, the outwork speak by it self.

The time has come for the fourth and most impressive edition of Athens Video Art Festival, a multidimensional and active artistic fair that has been endorsed by pubic and artists.

It is the official video art festival of Greece, an international festival of digital arts and new media, aiming to the promotion of digital culture. Athens Video Art Festival attempts to create cracks to a system which is considered “elite”. It focuses on video art but also embraces relative forms of expression like installations, performance art and music, with the use of digital technologies.

For its last edition, Athens Video Art Festival 07, 1200 submissions were made and more than 11 000 people attended this big celebration of digital culture.

Athens Video Art Festival 08 is going to take place on the 11th- 12th -13th of April 2008 at “Technopolis” of the City of Athens. 1350 submissions have been made to the fourth edition of Athens Video Art Festival.

From early in the afternoon till late at night, Athens Video Art Festival 08 will present the public with exceptional works of video art, impressive installations and video installations, web art and performances. Within the frame of its international collaborations that take place every year, Athens Video Art Festival will host important presentations*, most notably the presentation of the work of Bill Viola by John Hanhardt (Consulting Senior Curator for Film and Media Arts Smithsonian American Art Museum) on Saturday 12th of April at 19:30, and the collaboration with the highly acclaimed Transmediale Festival [Friday 11th of April at 19:30], that continues for the third consecutive year, among others.

Athens Video Art Festival 08 will also have a lot of music, as concerts from popular noteworthy Greek bands will take place (Micro, Raining Pleasure, Rodes) along with concerts with exciting new music bands (Elica, Info, Squirk, Pop Eye and Zebra Tracks)

Keene is an audio-visual project which started life in 2005 by D. Mitsiopoulos, following K. Giazlas in the same year. After a period of experimentation, a collection of tracks came about and was finally handed by H. Martis (d-os.org), who joined the project, while working on additional production and mastering.

The music of Keene can partly remind of the dark aesthetics of the 4AD in its mid/late 80’s, the deep ambient atmospheric sounds of Biosphere, the surreal declination of Coil and the earthly echoes of kraut rock.

Mostly acoustic and atmospheric they feature a narrative, melodic and sometimes cinematic flow that seems to enrich this feeling of melancholic recollection and introspection with enough breathing space.

“River & The Fence” is an introspective but at the same time cosy album, swinging in dreams and being characterized by a particularly elaborative sound mastering
and production.

Meek FM

Meek FM is an interpretation of type as sound. Using new software and the M.E.E.K. typographic synthesizer, the musician/designer develops sounds and typographic visuals in parallel. My friend and partner Lefteris (Lee Fraged) in LBHA network has finally released with his partners the site for his net label this side.

The label will be two sided, this side up for dance floor music like tech house, electro, techno, deep house, breakbeat and this side down for people (like me) who like more listening music and keep their foot on the ground, music like Dub, electronica, idm, ambient and more.
